My love of Scotland continues, unabated. However, moving there would be simply an ocean to far. And yet, some of the things I enjoy about the wee place can be replicated here! I love rain. Colder weather is nicer to me than hot. Green countryside soothes me greatly. Friendly people - well, I find those everywhere. Culture that's a bit quirky...you get the picture. Yep - The Great North West might just fit the bill. With a Big Job - no pun intended, Steve! - living in what is now Silicon Valley is fine. But what happens when we are living exclusively on savings and social security? A lower cost of living is called for. In the Portland, Oregon, area, I can purchase a home for 60% less than here; property taxes will be cut in half; and the overall cost of living is in the neighborhood of 33% lower. Make sense? You bet.
Soooo - I'm heading to Portland this evening for 5 days to have a look at what the area has to offer. I've spent some time in the city over the last 10 years, and it's a favorite of mine. This year has seen less rain than usual (sound familiar???) but I'm not unfamiliar, as I seem to recall, with the drops from the sky. I've scheduled time with an Oregon real estate agent and one from Washington just across the border in the Vancouver WA area. And I have recommendations from my friend Suzanne...a former native of the area. Voodo Donuts here I come!
I'll take pictures and keep you all posted. (oh, dear, another pun!) My girls don't believe it, but it would actually be just like me to up and move - and start a new phase of this lovely, wonderful life I'm so grateful for!
I'll talk to you soon ... Judy
